The Knights of The Dark Realm
For 2011/2012 there will be an extra roll of honour among the Bats, known as ‘The Knights of The Dark Realm’. This will be a list of all bats who complete one or both of two Fell Foot Challenges during a 12-week ‘portal’.
The Dark Realm Rules
1. The qualifying challenges will be the Trial of the Fell Foote (5m/2100ft) and the Trial of the Massif (28 miles by velocipede contrivance)
2. The ‘Portal to The Dark Realm’ will be open on Tuesdays from 22nd November to 7th Feb (12-weeks)
3. For safety reasons contenders must notify Batte Central (or another bat) of their intentions before embarking.
4. All contenders must make an appearance at the Tillotson’s hostelry to announce their safe return, completion or abandonment, the same night and must regale the Bat colony with tales of derring do.
5. The challenge must follow the same rules as the pusillanimous Summer version, apart from the move to Tuesday
6. The contender can choose his/her own start time but must complete the entire route in full darkness
7. Completion of either will entitle the Knight to be addressed by formal title (eg “Sir Bat” )
8. Completion of both will entitle the Knight to be addressed as “My Liege”
9. Times should be reported only to the nearest minute (we shall not be so vulgar as to consider seconds)
10. Completion of either within the rules will be worth 5 bonus bat points but this is a once-only award. Repeats or completion of both challenges will not attract any extra points. (so you can’t build up a massive advantage by going to Fell Foot every week!)
However….
11. Bats partaking of the Portal on any occasion will also receive the usual 2 bat points (provided they complete/attempt one of the above challenges) as if they had been at Carwags but they must also appear at the Tillotsons hostelry as required by rule 4 above.
NB – Bat points are available at Fell Foot only when completing one of the Dark Realm challenges
or one of the five official Fell Foot bat runs.
